Satan: What does the Bible say about Satan, the Devil?

EVERYBODY WANTS TO BASH THE SATANIC, BUT NO ONE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT SATAN

Saw an interesting comment yesterday about an article written by this writer.  The article was One-World Religion: 25 Quotes about the Coming NWO One World Religion.  The comment was on a social media site by an obviously well-meaning woman whose name began with “V.”  Her comment:

One-World Religion: 25 Quotes About the Coming NWO One World Religion… (These are viewed from a christian perspective, unfortunately, but there are some interesting quotes I haven’t seen before.)

I presume the woman was well-meaning by the types of articles she had featured.  Most of them had to do with evil or the nature of evil and several were about satanic ritual abuse.

(Several others used the graphic and article along with the same comment–and all who used the article collected articles or graphics having to do with evil or the one-world religion or one-world government the Bible assures us is coming.  They fully were interested in the Bible’s prediction without wanting to give credit to where the idea came from.)

So, here was a woman who was very interested in evil–even going so far as to label the idea of something extremely evil as “satanic.”  And yet, so deceived that she was firmly committed (at least to judge from her comments) to rejecting the idea that this evil had any source other than humans.

Satan: Humanity has an enemy; Christians too

Which seemed a bit arrogant.

But then, pride was the very first sin.

Perhaps the woman may be excused as we are living in an age of deception, about which we were repeatedly warned.  The deception is so thick, so pervasive, so ubiquitous that some speculate that only an act of a sovereign God can open one’s eyes to reveal the existence or true extent of it.

Where is the devil now and how much control does he have?

Make no mistake: humans are fallen and we live in a fallen world.  But humans, while fully capable of the inhumane, are the lesser evil; the fall had an author and Scripture tells us the name of it’s author.

“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
–Revelation 12:9

Upon seeing the woman’s comment, this writer was forced to admit: Satan has done his job exceedingly well in these last days.  This generation–and especially the youth–by denying the possibility of Satan deny themselves any hope of relief from his wiles, deceptions and ultimately, death and destruction.

A great many websites and articles are devoted to sundry topics of evil: The Illuminati, the Freemasons, the Jesuits, the synagogue of Satan, the evil international bankers, cults, etc.  Elaborate charts are constructed of various Hierarchies of Evil; but most, while identifying the many strands used in the weaving, fail to see the tapestry.

This tapestry was given a name almost 2000 years ago by the apostle Paul, who called it the “mystery of iniquity.”  Several have called it the “spirit of lawlessness.”

Does Satan exist?

Very, very few identify the weaver. or his minions–other than a few well-known (and well-promoted) lightning rods such as Adam Weishaupt or Amschel Mayer Rothschild or the cartoonish Aleister Crowley or Anton LaVey.  This is not meant to excuse the obvious wickedness of this group of men; it’s only meant to point out that these men are tiny, obviously much-hyped fleas on a much bigger dog.

And so, the woman whose name begins with “V” will most probably never know that her comment was the inspiration to finish a long-languishing article on the existence the author of evil: Satan.  Not to give him “place” as some imagine it  (When Ephesians 4:27 speaks of “place,” it refers to a foothold, an opportunity for temptation, or to  aforementioned anger.), but to warn others–like the woman whose name begins with “V”–that there really is an adversary.

This piece the reader sees before him is that “long-languishing article.”

SATAN: Is the Devil for Real? Does Satan exist? Or is he only an invention of the Christian Church?

It’s been said that “The finest trick of the devil is persuading you he does not exist.”

But Satan does really exist and Satan really does hate humanity.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
—1 Peter 5:8

He really does lie and deceive–and he really, really, really has worked hard to ensure that as many humans as possible follow him to perdition.

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. “
—John 8:44

Whether one chooses to believe in him or not makes no difference.

The Poles in 1939 who chose to believe that Hitler didn’t mean war against them didn’t influence the outcome of events by their willful ignorance.  However, a great many perished due to their unfortunate choice of following the path of “Ignorance is bliss.”

If many who DO believe in Satan are deceived, what hope have those who deny the very existence of their tormenter?

NOTE: Christians are NOT to rail or blaspheme against the devil–although Christians are to hate evil and, by extension Satan, who is the author of evil.

IS SATAN AN INVENTION OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH?

That’s easy enough to disprove.

The Christian Church came into being after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ approximately 27-33 AD.

The Book of Job, agreed by scholars to have been written at least 600–and perhaps as much as 1500 years–before Christianity has ample references to Satan.  At least four Old Testament books refer to “Satan.”

“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.”
—Job 1:6

References to the serpent go back to Genesis 3.

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
—Genesis 3:1

From Lucifer to Satan

So references to Satan and the devil predate Christianity by at least 600 years and by as much as 1500 years.

Satan was not an invention of the Christian Church.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TELL US ABOUT SATAN?

The Bible describes Satan.

Satan was created a holy angel.

“Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.”
—Ezekiel 28:15

Satan is a tempter and a deceiver. [Luke 4:1-13 and 2 Corinthians 4:4]

Satan has power. [Revelation 13:4, 13]

Satan is a prince of this present world.

“Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.”
—John 12:31

Many people have a lot of questions about Satan because for years,  pop culture and the media has distorted who and what the devil really is.

Is Satan in Hell?

Who is Satan?

Satan goes by many names.  The Bible lists many of these names.

The devil.  Beelzebub (Lord of the Flies). The serpent. The prince and power of the air. The dragon. The prince of this world.  There’s many more.

What are the names of Satan?

Bob Dylan, in an interview on 60 Minutes, referred to Satan as the “Chief commander on this earth and the world we can’t see.”

What does the Bible say about demons?

Satan was defeated at the cross by the atoning blood of Jesus Christ.

All who trust on Jesus Christ as their savior;–as their sole way into heaven–are promised victory over Satan, his wiles and traps and his minions.

SUMMARY: Satan is real and he hates humanity–with a passion.  He’s goes by many names and is a deceiver and a tempter.  Satan is powerful.

However, he has already been defeated.

All those who profess Jesus as Lord can walk in the victory obtained by Jesus Christ over Satan at the cross  and have all assurance of that victory in their own life.

We are all sinners abiding under the wrath of an all-powerful and righteous judge.  The Bible says “None are good.”  But because God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to die for our sins, believers can escape the wrath of God.

“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”
